FORTUNATO RIVERA, SR.
PHARR – Fortunato Rivera, Sr., 78, died Monday, January 4, 2010, at his residence in Pharr.
Born in La Villa, Mr. Rivera had lived in Pharr most his life and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr.
He is preceded in death by a son, Fortunato Rivera, Jr., his parents, Anastacia and Manuel Rivera; and siblings, Juanita Salinas, Valentin Rivera, Vicenta Ramos and Manuel Rivera.
Mr. Rivera is survived by his wife, Celia Rivera, of Pharr; nine children, Alicia Sahagun, of Pharr, Frances (Alvaro) Moreno, of Alamo, Connie (Ben) Rosalez, of Mathis, Joe (Martha) Rivera, of Pharr, Beatris Munoz, Jaime (Idalia) Rivera, Lorenzo (Claudia) Rivera, Oralia (Luis) Villarreal, and Abel (Sandra) Rivera, all of Alamo; a daughter-in-law, Diann Rivera, of McAllen; 25 grandchildren, Veronica, Abran, Joyce, Isaac, Ruth, John Joe, Luke, Alvaro Jr., Thomas, Skye, Magdalena, Claritza, Illiana, Sarah, Rafael Jr., Victor, David, Matthew, Jacob, Joel, Mark, Analisa, Michael, Ariana and Anthony; seven great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Abigail, Karina, Allison, Selena, Emily and Yahel; five sisters, Gregoria Gomez, Carmen Medrano, Guillerma Garcia, Anita Jasso and Ignacia Rivera; and two brothers, Juan Rivera and Francisco Rivera.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral mass will be at 10 am Thursday, January 7, 2010, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
