Humberto Rodriguez

June 3, 1932 — May 16, 2013

HUMBERTO RODRIGUEZ SAN JUAN – Humberto Rodriguez, 80, lost his battle with cancer Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Mr. Rodriguez was born and raised in Edinburg. In 1963 he enlisted in the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged in 1955, Humberto moved to West Texas to become a farmer. On June 12, 1965 he married Eliza Ybarra in Dimmitt, Texas. He returned to the Rio Grande Valley in 1980 and started Bob Rodriguez Construction Company. Bob was a loving and caring husband and a dad who was very protective of his wife and children. Although he was always busy with his construction company or feeding his livestock, he always made time for his family and friends. He adored his grandchildren. Bob believed in the Lord and we know that he is smiling down upon us from heaven. We know that God needed a hard worker, someone who never said "no"; he has one in Dad. He always made sure that his family were in church even though he was working. He left a lasting impression or impact on all those who knew him, whether through an experience or an old story he had to share. Dad was a man who never met a stranger. He was a friend to everyone but a hero to his boys and family. Dad, we love you and your spirit will live in us forever. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Antonio "El Indio" Rodriguez and Rafaela Rodriguez; two sisters, Gloria (Joe Jr.) Vera and Oralia Guzman; and a brother, Hector "Prieto" Rodriguez. Mr. Rodriguez is survived by his wife, Eliza Rodriguez; four sons, Humberto (Betty Jean) Rodriguez, Jose Antonio "Tony" (Ronnie) Rodriguez, both of San Juan, Chris ( Michelle) Rodriguez, Sal (Cynthia) Rodriguez, both of Pharr; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Yolanda (†Rolando) Acosta, of Mission; a brother, Jose Antonio (Charlotte) Rodriguez, of Amarillo, TX; a sister in law, Juanita Rodriguez, of Edinburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Pallbearers will be J.J. Herrera, Henry Guzman, Rick Rodriguez, Larry Joe Rodriguez, Roberto Acosta, Dustin Rodriguez, George Watts Jr. and Hector Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Vera III and Charles Mayfield. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3895 of La Joya. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
