Pharr - Oscar P. Rodriguez, 58, touched our lives before he met our Lord Jesus on Friday, November 11, 2011 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Rodriguez was born in Premont, TX on January 17, 1953. After teaching one year in San Isidro, TX, Mr. Rodriguez taught science for the P-SJ-A school district for the next 28 years, all at Austin Middle School in San Juan, until he retired in 2004. He continued to substitute teach at South Middle School in Edinburg, TX. Until the day Oscar left us, he touched many lives and made many friends along the way; all of which were with him until the end. His hobbies included classic Mustang cars, Batman collectibles, and never missing a Dallas Cowboy game.
He is preceded in death by his father Blas Rodriguez; brother Blas Raul Rodriguez; and in-laws Daniel and Mine Hernandez.
Oscar P. Rodriguez is survived by his wife of 36 years Gilda H. Rodriguez, daughter Gloria Isela Rodriguez, son Oscar (Lorena) Rodriguez Jr., and grandson Nicolas Rodriguez all of Pharr. He is also survived by his mother Hortencia P. Rodriguez of Pharr, brother Javier (Monette) Rodriguez of McAllen, and sister-in-law Noemi Rodriguez of San Juan. Mr. Rodriguez was a loving and caring son, husband, father, uncle, friend, teacher, and above all grandfather. “Thanks for everything Dad, we’ll see you later.”ORJ & GIR
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary today, November 14, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home, 311 E. Expressway 83 in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at St. Margaret Mary Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
