ROMEO ROSENDO ROBLES SR.
PHARR- Romeo Rosendo Robles Sr., 84, was called to his heavenly home Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his residence in Pharr.
Romeo was a beloved family man, educator, entrepreneur, veteran, and an avid Christian. You could always find him having conversations with his friends and family about faith, and the importance of eternal love. He always saw the best in people and led with his heart in everything he did. He had such a deep love for his family, and his wife, Rosa. This was exemplified by the family traditions he constructed with his grandchildren, where they ushered in a new day whilst singing “Coffee, Coffee, Grandma!” down the hallway. It was an initiation all looked forward to.
Romeo was a man of service to his family, community, and country. He served in the Texas National Guard for numerous years, and was activated to full-time service in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1962, during the Berlin Crisis. In 1999, Romeo was appointed to the City of Pharr’s Planning and Zoning Commission and continued to serve as an active member until his death.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.M. and Maria Luisa Ibañez Robles; mother-in-law, Luisa Castellano; daughter, Joan Philpot; son-in-law, Larry Doeppenschmidt; daughter-in-law, Cathy L. Clark; grandson, Noah Robles; brother-in-law, Israel Flores Sr.; and a sister-in-law, Estela Robles.
Mr. Robles is survived by his wife, Rosa Robles; three children, Mary Lou Doeppenschmidt, Romeo R. (Janet) Robles, Roel R. Robles; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Anna (Mitch), Andrew (Amy), Billy, James (Adam), Rebecca (Caleb), Micah (Mandie); eight great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Xavier, Jesse, Cici, Callie, Robin, Miles, Amirah; and four siblings, Maria Luisa Flores, Hugo Robles, Sylvia (Robert) Navarro, and Vangie (Raul) Abrego.
