HUMBERTO “BERT” ROMERO SAN JUAN – Humberto “Bert” Romero, 71, died Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. Born in San Juan, Mr. Romero had lived there all of his life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish. Mr. Romero graduated from PSJA High School in 1961 and attended Ranger College. He was employed by CPL, which later became AEP, for 43 years until his retirement in 2007. Bert also volunteered as Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle National Shrine for the last 15 years and was also a volunteer baseball coach for San Juan Parks and Recreation for 16 years. Mr. Romero served on the PSJA Quarterback Club, and also served on the PSJA School District committee to name the mascot for PSJA Memorial “Wolverine” High School. Mr. Romero is survived by his wife, Palmira Romero, of San Juan; three children, Patricia (Kenneth) Villers, Nicandro Humberto (Sara) Romero Sr., both of San Juan, Deana (Rick) Flores, of Austin; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Arcilia Romero, of San Juan; a brother, Andres Romero, of Edinburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, January 15, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
