EDINBURG - Miguel A. Romero Sr., 92, went home to our Lord Friday, December 28, 2018, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg.
Born in McAllen to Felipe and Refugio Romero, Miguel lived in Edinburg most of his life. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. Miguel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed ranching, farming, baking and the fine arts.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Eulalia Saenz Romero; a son, Robert John Romero; two great-granddaughters, Lucy and Claire Elizondo; two brothers, Mario Romero, Rodolfo Villagomez; and a sister, Rosa Espinoza.
Miguel is survived by his children, Norma (Adan) Porras, Miguel A. (Lyria) Romero Jr., Rosie (Robert) De La Garza, Romeo (Cynthia) Romero, Phillip (Abby) Romero, Mario (Marta) Romero, Edna (Peter) Hupperich, Carmela (Cerjio) Elizarraraz, Cynthia Benavidez; 26 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, December 31, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.
Pallbearers will be Robert Romero, Adan Saul Porras, Marc Elizarraraz, Ryan Romero, Justin Romero, and Jacob Elizarraraz.
Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 7473 of Elsa.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
