SGT. FERNANDO “FERNA” DE LA ROSA
ALAMO- Sgt. Fernando ”Ferna” De La Rosa, 24, died Tuesday October 27, 2009 supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in the Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan.
Born in McAllen and formerly of Alamo, Sgt. De La Rosa was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2003 and had served two tours in Iraq. Sgt. De La Rosa was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Eustolio De La Rosa, Sr.; and an aunt, Anabel Rosales.
Sgt. De La Rosa is survived by his wife, Karen De La Rosa; and two sons, Fernando De La Rosa, Jr. and Juan Carlos De La Rosa, all of Fort Lewis, Washington; mother, Rosa De La Rosa of Alamo; father, Rolando (Pamela) De La Rosa of Pharr; four bothers, Rolando (Kassandra) De La Rosa, Jr. of Beeville, Texas, Pvt. Alfredo De La Rosa of Camp Casey, South Korea, Rogelio De La Rosa of Alamo, and Rayven De La Rosa of Pharr; a niece, Delilah Jaylyn De La Rosa of Beeville, Texas; paternal grandmother, Carmen De La Rosa of Alamo; maternal grandparents, Francisco and Elaida Reyes, all of Alamo; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 pm with a 7 pm rosary today, November 8, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 2 pm Monday, November 9, 2009 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission with full Military Honors.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
