RUBEN VARGAS

ALAMO, TX – Ruben Vargas, 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg, surrounded by his loving family.

Ruben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his family. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Elida Salazar Vargas, for over 50 wonderful years, sharing a lifetime of love and devotion. He was a passionate outdoorsman who found great joy in fishing and hunting, hobbies that brought him peace and many cherished memories with loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Adelita Camarillo.

Left to honor his memory are his beloved wife, Elida Salazar Vargas; his three children, Chriselda Vargas, Linda Vargas Lopez (Manuel Lopez) and Anthony “Tony” Ruben Vargas (Analiz De Leon -Vargas); and his grandson, whom he raised, Joel David Hernandez (Evelyn Hernandez). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Adrian Alcántar Jr., Marvella Lopez, Marla Katelynn Lopez, Isabella Ortega, Elian Anthony Vargas, and Alisa Danielle Vargas, as well as a doting great-grandfather to Eileen Joellie Hernandez, Mia Karenny Hernandez, and David Gael Hernandez. His legacy of love and warmth will live on in their hearts forever.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. prayer service on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. A funeral service will take place at 12 noon on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
