PEDRO RUIZ McALLEN – Pedro Ruiz, 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2014, at his McAllen residence. Pedro was born in Matamoros, Nuevo Leon, raised in Nipomo, California, and lived in McAllen for 50 years. Known as “Pete” by everyone who knew him, he was an avid traveler who enjoyed traveling together with his loved ones. His love for sports was amazing to see, especially his passion for baseball and his beloved Houston Astros. But most importantly, Pete’s favorite past time was spending quality time with family, especially his wife Emma of 49 years and 1 day (every second counted). Coming from a large family, Pete always looked forward to visiting and spending time with his large family that spanned from Washington, to California, and all over Texas. Pete’s love for his large family came with an even bigger heart. He will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched while on his journey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Maria Marroquin; his father and mother in law, Santana and Nieves Maldonado; two sisters, Janie Lopez and Lynda Mayo; two brothers in law, Leonard Maldonado and Margil Maldonado; and a sister in law, Catarina Arriaga. Mr. Ruiz has now cleared a path to Heaven for and is survived by his wife, Emma M. Ruiz, of McAllen; eight siblings, Concepcion Marroquin, Ramon (Bea) Marroquin, Julian (Charlene) Marroquin, Aurora Ruiz (Juan) Acosta, all of Santa Maria, CA, Cleo (Mike) Estrada, of Templeton, CA, Jesus (Maria) Marroquin, Norma Marroquin (Fernando) Loera, both of Nipomo, CA, Fella (Luis) Gutierrez, of Paso Robles, CA; seven brothers and sisters in law, Jose (Irma) Maldonado, Ernestina Garcia, Diamantina (Agustin) Patlan, Rosa (Ruben) Ybarra, Melba (Rolando) Pineda, Santana (Minerva) Maldonado, Oralia Karam, all of McAllen; 14 Godchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
