Ryland, Marvin Orel
Marvin passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2010 in McAllen, Texas with his family at his side. Cremation has taken place.
He was born on April 24, 1943, in Highland, Illinois and immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1949 and resided there until he completed high school. Graduating from Eastglen High School in 1961; and following the Naval tradition of his uncles he joined the U.S. Navy, as a submariner.
Upon his discharge, he settled in Texas and there met his Texas sweetheart, Maria Elena (Longoria) Ryland whom he married in 1970. From their marriage, they were blessed with two children; Adrian (Lori) Ryland and Rebecca
(Ramsey) Olivarez and five grandchildren; Myranda Mercedez Diaz Ryland, Isaiah Manuel Ryland, Iza' Bella Marie Ryland, Jackson Jett Olivarez, and Charlotte Kade Olivarez.
They lived in Corpus Christi, Texas untill both of their retirements when they moved to McAllen, Texas. Many will remember Marvin as a gregarious
gentleman who never met a stranger.
As a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he led others to believe otherwise, all in good fun. As a father, he taught the importance of always giving to others and finding humor in every situation.
Each of the grandchildren in their own way will remember his teaching, teasing, caring and gentle ways with each of them as they have been growing up.
He is survived by his eldest brother Cloyce (Faye) Ryland Jr. of Ohio. and youngest brother Ronald (late Kathleen) Ryland of Alberta, Canada and the cousins and many nieces and nephews of Oklahoma.
Marvin was predeceased by both his parents Cloyce and Mary Ryland, and father-in-law Manuel Longoria.
From the Ryland and Longoria families, a special "thank you" to the staff of the Briarcliff Nursing Rehabilation Center and the Medical Team at the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas and for the received special prayers and loving thoughts from his friends.
A private graveside interment will follow in Raymondville, Texas, today, May 5, 2010.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
