DONICIA "ROSIE" SALAZAR
EDINBURG - Donicia "Rosie" Salazar, 66, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2011.
Born in Harlingen, Rosie Salazar, also known to many as "Little Grandma", had lived in Edinburg for 35 years and was formerly of San Jose, California.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo Gutierrez and Maria Vasquez Gutierrez; a sister, Lina Phillips; and a brother, Roy Gutierrez.
Mrs. Salazar is survived by her husband of 48 years, Esteban Salazar, of Edinburg; four children, Baldemar "Eddie" Salazar, of Katy, Texas, Marie S. (Daniel) Garcia, Denise S. (Tony) Barrera, both of Edinburg, Steve Salazar, of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jessica (David) Mendoza, Steven D. Garcia, Stephanie A. Garcia, A.J. Pena, Tony Barrera Jr., Bryan J. Pena, Amanda M. Pena, Derek Salazar; one great-grandchild, Jaiden Ezekiel Mendoza; six brothers and sisters, Virginia Valenzuela, of Stockton, California, Alfredo Gutierrez, of Gilroy, California, Jenny Castro, Tom Gutierrez, both of Anderson, California, Victor Gutierrez, of Santa Clara, California, Richard Gutierrez, of Austin, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family of Mrs. Salazar would like to give thanks to their family, friends and healthcare professionals, especially to her niece, Yvette Salazar, who tended to her care.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 p.m. Celebration of Life Service, Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at El Buen Pastor, 705 East University in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
