RENE “EL RANO” SALAZAR

SAN JUAN – Rene Salazar, 35, died Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas.

He was born in San Juan and had lived there all of his life.

Rene is survived by his mother, Josefa (Jose) Hernandez, of San Juan; his father, Candelario (Maria) Salazar, of Kingsville, Texas; sisters and brothers, Rosie (Ernie) Cortez, of McAllen, Lupe (Maxine) Salazar, of Abilene, Texas, Letty Garcia, of San Juan, Bertha (David) Benne, of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Martin Salazar, of San Juan, Carlos (Cynthia) Salazar, of Mission, Gloria Salazar, of Pharr, and twin brother Raul (Erin) Salazar, of Austin, Texas; two stepsisters, Marisela Salazar and Martha Salazar, both of Kingsville, Texas; a cousin, Janie Salazar, of Pharr; an aunt, Ofelia Garcia, of Edinburg; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A rosary was held Monday, March 2, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2 pm today, March 3, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Aaron Cortez, Andy Cortez, Eric Salazar, Marco Garcia, David Benne Jr., and Nick Garcia.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
