SANTOS P. SALINAS SAN JUAN – Santos P. Salinas, 93, died Friday July 4, 2014, at his residence in San Juan. Born to Presiliano and Rafaela Salinas in Alamo, he had lived in San Juan all of his life. Mr. Salinas was a US Army veteran who served during World War II. He served as Chief of Police and Municipal Judge for the city of San Juan for many years. He was also a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Pharr. He is preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle, Grover and Maria Brady; three brothers, Antonio, Romeo, and Leonel Salinas; and one sister, Arcilia Penon. Mr. Salinas is survived by his wife Effie Salinas of San Juan; nine children, Rafaela (Robert) Tellez, of Las Cruces, NM, Santos (Rebecca) Salinas, Jr., of Edinburg, Ruben (Enedelia) Salinas, Rosa Ramirez, both of Harlingen, Harold Salinas of El Paso, TX, Margaret (+Howard) Gearing of McAllen, Effie Mae Castillo, Linda Michels, both of San Juan, and Gloria Salinas of Pharr; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Luci (Pete) Hereida of Fort Wayne, IN. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, July 8, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW post 7473 of Elsa. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
