Shakuntala J. Mahbubani

Shakuntala Jaikishin Mahbubani, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in Harlingen, TX.

Shakuntala was a devoted wife, loving mother, adored grandmother and a pillar of her faith. She was born in India and lived in Texas for over 50 years. Shakuntala knew the profound truth that giving was far more blessed than receiving. She enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone and she never let anyone leave home without a handfed bite. 

Shakuntala is preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Jaikishin Partabrai Mahbubani of Harlingen.

She is survived by her son, Vivek Jaikishin Mahbubani of Harlingen; her daughter, Laju Mahbubani (Jose Jr.) Alemán of Weslaco; three grandchildren, Samina S. Alemán, Anayah A. Alemán, Armaan J. Alemán, all of Weslaco; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg, TX. Funeral service will take place immediately at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow at Memorial Cremation Center.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
