SIMON SIFUENTES BROWNSVILLE/PHARR — Simon Sifuentes, 102, died Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville. Born in Montemorelos, Mexico, he was formerly of Pharr and had lived in Brownsville since 2002. He was employed by Missouri Pacific Railroad for 30 years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Porfiria S. Sifuentes; a daughter, Dora Elizabeth Sifuentes; and a sister, Maria Andrea Guerra. Mr. Sifuentes is survived by a son, Romeo (Elisa) Sifuentes, of Laredo; two daughters, Socorro (Joe) Pena, of Brownsville and Rosie (Roger) Oberg, of Austin; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, August 11, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Pallbearers will be Enrique Pena, Juan Carlos Pena, Jesus Antonio Garcia, Juan Salinas, Humberto Salinas and Juan Manuel Salinas. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
