Yolanda Tanguma Garza, 85, passed away Friday, December 9, 2022, peacefully at her residence in McAllen.
Ms. Garza was a dedicated former educator for 32 years at Hidalgo ISD and PSJA ISD. Yolanda lived in San Juan most of her life. Mama Bear bled maroon and was the proudest & loudest PSJA Bears Fan.
Nana, as her family called her, is preceded in death by her parents, Vicente & Dolores Tanguma and brother, Leonel Tanguma.
Nana is survived by her children, Vanessa Marie Garza of McAllen, Veronica Marie Vazaldua of San Juan, Maria Magdalena (Miguel) Tamez of Corpus Christi, Rebecca Ann Luna of Pharr, Guadalupe (Stephanie) Garza Jr. of San Juan, Dr. Juan Carlos (Lina) Garza of McAllen. Nana was loved by all, but especially by her 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Guadalupe Dixon of South Carolina, Maria (Roger+) Kirsch of Harlingen, Jose (Judy+) Tanguma of Donna, Gilberto (Lupita) Tanguma of San Juan, Emma (Pete) Pompa of San Juan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Isaiah Jay Garcia, Moy Vazaldua Jr., Victor Gutierrez Jr., Joey Johnson, J.J. Ayala & Raul Alcala Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are Adrian R. Quintanilla and Ryan M. Trevino.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alamo.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
