GILBERT AARON TEEGARDIN, III EDINBURG - Gilbert Aaron Teegardin, III, 77, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012, surrounded by his family at his residence in Edinburg. Born in Highland Park, Michigan on September 9, 1935, Gil had lived in the Edinburg/McAllen area since 1970. Gil was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving after the Korean War. While in the military, Gil was a scrub nurse on a hospital ship. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards. Gil was also a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. One of his daily rituals was to meet his great friends at Whataburger. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert A. Teegardin, II and Margaret Virginia Teegardin; sister, Vivian Elizabeth Teegardin; daughter, Margaret Louise Teegardin; and grandson, Randy Clay McBee. Gil is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeannette Rose Teegardin of Edinburg; son, Gilbert Aaron (Vivian Krska) Teegardin, IV of Harlingen; three daughters, Karen Teegardin Helton, Dawn (Craig) Schlegel, and Sheryl Hair, all of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, December 23, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 24, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Internment will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Pallbearers will be all his grandsons: Kyle Teegardin, Kirk Teegardin, Klay Teegardin, Gary Allen, Anthony Allen, Travis McBee, and Cameron Hair. Honorary pallbearer will be Craig Schlegel. The family would like to give special thanks to the Critical Care Unit of the McAllen Heart Hospital and CIMA Hospice. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
