ARTURO TIJERINA McALLEN - Arturo Tijerina, 64, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at McAllen Medical Center. Mr. Tijerina was born in Edinburg and had lived in McAllen most of his life. He directed and played the bass with the Orquesta Universal of McAllen for many years. He is preceded in death by his father, Jesus Tijerina. Arturo is survived by his wife, Maria S. Tijerina, of McAllen; six children, Arturo (Amy) Tijerina, of Mission, Arturo Rafael Tijerina, of Alton, Diana (Shannon) Stanley, of Parker, Colorado, Martin Tijerina, Noemi (Alejandro) Lopez and Robert Tijerina, all of McAllen; nine grandchildren; his mother, Elvira B. Tijerina, of Edinburg; a brother, Rudy Tijerina; six sisters, Gloria Crsisostomos, Mary Ortega, Ida Salinas, Melva Hernandez, Yolanda Ybarra and Nora Sanchez. A rosary was held Monday, June 24, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. today, June 25, 2013, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
