MANUEL TIJERINA ALAMO - Manuel Tijerina, 72, of Alamo, died at 1:00 AM, Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Hermann Hospital in Katy, TX. He was born on July 22, 1941 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Esther Tijerina; a brother, Joel Tijerina. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Maria Teresa of Alamo; a son, Manuel Tijerina of Houston, TX.; six daughters, Marla Edna Lutz of Alamo, Adriana Ester Vela of Fulshear, TX, Alejandra Eva Navarro of Santa Rosa, Yesenia De los Santos of Mcallen, Maria Teresa Roth of Honolulu, Hawaii, Teresa Eva Tijerina of Alamo; and nine grandchildren. Manuel was a generous and well-respected man that will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He enjoyed collecting school supplies and donating them to a small rural elementary school near his beloved ranch, Poteritos, in Reynosa. He epitomized the spirit of the independent cowboy with a tough exterior and a tender interior. He learned the joy of riding at an early age and maintained his passion for horses throughout his life. A rosary was held Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. today, August 22, 2013 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
