EVELYN G. TOBIN
EDINBURG - Evelyn G. Tobin, 84, went peacefully to the Lord on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 surrounded by her family at The Bridges in Mission, TX.
Evelyn was born on September 29, 1925 at Cibolo Ranch in Concepcion, TX to Rafael and Luciana Garcia. She lived her life devoted to God, family, and her many lifelong friends. She valued education and hard work. She was extremely dedicated to her jobs and displayed extraordinary work ethic.
After graduation from Benavides High School in 1941, Evelyn attended San Antonio Business School and acquired excellent secretarial skills. She worked at Brooks County Court House in Falfurrias, TX, Guaranty Title Co. She married Albert A. Tobin in November of 1947
She worked for Lundell’s Inc., an oil company in Alice, TX for 22 years. While living in Alice, she also worked as a nurse assistant for Drs. Joseph, Virgin and Crisp. In 1967, she and her family moved to Edinburg where she worked for 30 years at UTPA until her retirement in 1997.
She was a member of Desk & Derrick Club, Catholic Daughters of America, St. Joseph Altar Society. She also served as Den Mother for Cub Scouts and was a 4H leader. Evelyn was very talented in many areas, such as baking and sewing. She was especially famous for her delectable empanadas and breads. She also had a gift for fine, exquisite needlework and quilting.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert A. Tobin; her parents, Rafael and Luciana Garcia; a brother, Jesus ( Endelia) Garcia; and a sister, Consuelo G. (Larry) Benavides.
She is survived by her son, Albert A. (Debbie) Tobin of Springfield, Virginia; a daughter, Debra T.(Gary) Burch of Edinburg; five grandchildren, Deanna, Steven and Daniel Tobin from Springfield, VA; Ashley Burch from Edinburg, TX and Sean Burch from Katy, TX; three sisters, Hortencia Garcia and Rafaela (Juan) Villarreal both of Alice, Texas and Rebecca (Oscar +) Garcia of San Diego, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Edinburg. Pallbearers will be Sean Burch, Steven Tobin, Daniel Tobin, A.N. Ramirez, Luis Rene Benavides, Roland Garcia and O. G. Garcia.

The family is very appreciative of the love and care that was given to Evelyn at The Bridges of Edinburg and Mission during her last years.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
