Tomas “Round” Arredondo
Tomas Arredondo, affectionately known as “Round,” passed away peacefully at his home in Pharr, Texas, surrounded by his beloved family on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Born on March 30, 1946, in Edinburg, Texas, to Wenceslado and Nicolasa Garza Arredondo, Tomas lived a life rich in love, hard work, and dedication to family and friends.Tomas met the love of his life, Odilia, when they were just 11 years old in the neighborhood where they both grew up. They began courting at the age of 15 and married in 1971. Together, they celebrated 53 years of marriage this past June, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.Round made his career working at Elmer & Stahl Packing Shed in Pharr, before traveling to Pecos and Uvalde, Texas, to work in the cantaloupe packing industry. After retiring, he embraced his role as “Grandpa Round,” devoting his time to caring for his grandchildren, a role that brought him immense joy.A lifelong football fan, Round was passionate about the Dallas Cowboys, but Friday night lights at the PSJA stadium held a special place in his heart. He faithfully occupied the same seats for over 60 years, cheering on his favorite teams and proudly watching his son TJ, Raider Class of ’93, Renie, Raider Class of ’99, and his grandson Julius, Raider Class of 2024. His love for football created countless memories with his family and friends. Known for his keen sense of the game, Round also enjoyed friendly wagers, a pastime that added an extra layer of excitement to his love for football. Beyond his football passion, Round loved the thrill of Las Vegas and playing the Texas Lotto. His greatest dream was to leave his sons a ranch where they could continue the hunting traditions and memories they shared growing up. He fulfilled that dream with the T&O Ranch, a place where those cherished moments will continue for generations to come.Round is survived by his loving wife, Odilia, and his five children: Susana Yvette Arredondo (Roberto) Ponce, Tomas Javier “TJ” (Jenifer) Arredondo, Renie Roel (Gina) Arredondo, Ellie Nicole (Dr. Abram) Estrada, and Vanessa Omar (Elisa) Arredondo. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Emma, Sebastian, Olivia, Matthew, Madison, Jasmine, Natasha, Brittany, Julius, Jayce, Adanai, and Abrie, and his great-grandchildren: Jadynn, Milo, Sebastián, Romeo, Sofía and numerous nieces and nephews. Tomas Arredondo’s legacy of love, family, and football will live on through those who were blessed to know him. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
