ELIUD G. TREVINO
SAN JUAN - Eliud G. Trevino, 91, entered eternal rest Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
Mr. Trevino was a lifelong resident of San Juan and a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as Sgt. in the front line of the Korean War. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, MX.
After Mr Treviño's service in the Korean War he developed an interest in politics and ran for the PSJA School Board in 1962. He and his political party won the election and so began his tenure as a school board member and he became the first Hispanic School Board President at PSJA in 1965. It was at a political function in McAllen for Othal Brand that he was invited to and met Mr. Brand. They instantly became friends and shortly thereafter Mr. Brand brought him on board at Griffin & Brand Produce to manage his produce operations in Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala.
It was while working for Mr. Brand that Mr. Treviño also developed an interest in becoming a pilot. When he received his pilot license he became Mr. Brand's pilot flying Mr. Brand to his produce operations again in Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala.
He also represented Griffin & Holder in Hidalgo, TX and Banworth Produce in La Joya, TX, managing their produce operations in Mexico as well. It was after his tenure at Banworth Produce that he began his own produce business in Mexico under the business name Trevi's Produce. He retired in 2000 from the produce business and settled in San Juan, TX.
He is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Magdalena "Magala" Casares Trevino; his son, Eliud "Sonny" Trevino, Jr.; a grandson, Ricardo "JR" Cruz; his parents, Mauro and Juanita Trevino; five siblings, Irma Trevino, Eleazar Trevino, Esperanza "Esper" Trevino, Oscar Trevino, and Arabella Trevino Bartimus.
Mr. Trevino is survived by his four children, Cynthia Trevino Pena, Marilu Trevino Cruz, Zonia Trevino, and Omar Trevino; seven grandchildren, Omar Rene, Rolando "Rollie" Nicolas, Idoluis, Omar Jr., Marcos, Eliud David; ten great-grandchildren, Ali, Trisha, Rollie, Ryan, Davin, Samantha, Nathan, Destini, Layla and Charlotte; four great-great-grandchildren, Gio, Jonavan, Isla and Josiah; two brothers, Sigifredo "Kiki" (Irma) and Mauro Amando (Maria)Trevino.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with at 6 p.m. prayer service Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church in San Juan, officiated by Dr. Javier Alanis. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
