ESPERANZA “ESPER” TREVINO

SAN JUAN — Esperanza “Esper” Trevino, 79, was called home peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 7, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer.

Esper was born and raised in San Juan, Texas and graduated in 1953 from PSJA High School. She worked for the Bracero Program, the Rio Grande Valley Gas Company, the Selective Service, and retired after 30 years with U.S. Customs.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Hilda Irma Trevino, her parents Mauro and Juanita Trevino and a nephew, Eluid (Sonny) Trevino, Jr.

Esper was one of eight children born to the late Mauro and Juanita Trevino. She will forever be remembered by her loving sister Arabella (Clyde) Bartimus, of San Juan, her devoted brothers, Eleazar (Tiva) Trevino, of Temple, Eluid Trevino, Oscar (Minerva) Trevino, Mauro A. (Maria) Trevino, Jr., all of San Juan, and Kiki (Irma) Trevino, of Alamo; 27 treasured nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her.

Esper loved playing BINGO, listening to Mariachi music, cooking for her family, hosting traditional holiday gatherings, and welcomed everyone with open arms.

She touched the lives of many people with her sense of humor, selflessness, and maintained her trademark wit to the very end.

Friends and family are invited to the visitation today, November 9th, from 5 to 9pm, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 10th, at St. John Lutheran Church in San Juan. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens on Taylor Road in McAllen, Texas.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Eleazar Trevino, Jr, Omar Trevino, Mauro Trevino III, CydeBartimus, Jr., Jason Bartimus, and Kiki Trevino, Jr.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
