GILBERT TREVIÑO
EDINBURG – Gilbert Treviño, 59,made his transition to his eternal home with the Lord on April 14, 2016. Love and adoration surrounded him as his family and friends were by his side.
Gilbert had deep Edinburg roots. He was born and raised there, married his high school sweetheart, and together raised a beautiful family with their daughter. Gilbert lived all 59 of his years within the city limits. His footprints not only left marks on the hardwood at Edinburg High School's basketball court, but also in the record books wearing his number 33 Bobcat jersey. Gilbert was Edinburg's leading scorer in 1974 & 1975 season.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, brother in-law, uncle and friend. He had heart for people, doing the right thing, and ensuring everyone in his presence felt love and joy.
Growing up in his father's family business, Gilbert learned very early the value of hard work, team work and dedication. His love for his brothers and sisters as they worked the fields before and after school gave him a sense of pride and responsibility to always have this unspoken promise of togetherness. For Gilbert, family was everything.
Gilbert took his upbringing learnings to his profession. As a lead foreman for Pardi Produce, and being part of the Little Bear family for over 15 years at J&D Produce, he has contributed to many successions, and through his leadership formed many wonderful lasting friendships. Gilbert had a brother like bond with Jimmy (Diane) Bassetti, owner of J&D produce. Their passion for the business was a force to reckoned with. This is how Gilbert received one of his many nicknames, "Shooter", when he and Jimmy shared the basketball court together during company basketball leagues.
Of course, everyone that knew Gilbert, knew his family. The unconditional love he had for his wife was very obvious and delightful to see. Gilbert lived his life to make sure he did everything in his might to take care of her. She did the same for him. You would see Sylvia brining him lunch everyday to make sure he ate. She would always wait for him anxiously to get home to hug him and massage his tired feet. It was the simple things that gave them joy, together. Even through his last days, Sylvia never left his bedside to the very moment he went to be with his Lord Savior. This love resonated to their daughter, Audrey. Her love for her parents is very special, and she too dedicates her life to her family. Audrey & her Dada had a special bond like no other.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Trinidad Treviño, Sr.; and his in-laws, Amando and Amalia Estrada.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Sylvia Treviño; a daughter, Audrey (Michael David) Guerra; siblings, Guadalupe, (Esther) Treviño, Jr., Jesus (Margie) Treviño, Israel (Flaudia) Treviño, Isabel Treviño, Ramiro (Rosie) Treviño, all of Edinburg, Rosie Carreon of San Juan, Luis (Terry) Treviño, Alfredo (Yolanda) Treviño, Benny (Martha) Escobedo of Edinburg, his Estrada brothers and sisters in law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
