Maria I. Trevino

April 24, 1934 — January 6, 2021

PHARR- Maria I. Trevino, 86, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Doctor's Hospital At Renaissance in Edinburg.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio Trevino and Maria del Refugio Trevino; siblings, Rodolfo Trevino, Ramoncita Trevino, Felicitas Trevino, Maria Luisa T. Sanchez, and Maria E. Garcia
Maria is survived by her brother, Guadalupe Trevino of San Juan, along with numerous nieces and nephews; grands nieces and nephews; and great grandnieces and nephews.
Maria was one of five surviving children of immigrant parents who came from Burgos, Tamp., Mexico In search for a better life. She dedicated her life to serving her family through the work of her hands and the love in her heart. She, along with her parents and siblings, worked tirelessly as migrant farmworkers for years in the fields of Minnesota during the summer. The rest of the year, she dedicated herself to working at Haggars factory in Edinburg as a seamstress, then as a housekeeper, while all along caring for her parents, sister and nephews and nieces. Maria, or Maria grande, as we fondly called her, may never have had children but she helped raise so many of us nieces and nephews, and in some cases, she was seen as a second mom as described by second generation great-nephews and nieces Emerito, Benjamin, Laura and Felicitas Trevino. She was always ready to serve up a home-cooked meal. Over the years, she had notable accomplishments she took great pride in; learning to drive and becoming an American Citizen. She gained independence and earned the right to vote. Eventually she retired as a provider in her late 70s. She was a strong, happy, healthy woman full of life and faith. During our daily family rosary, she would always pray for the finding of a vaccine, an end to this pandemic and bestowed blessing upon the whole world. Undoubtedly, heaven rejoiced to receive you as we were left behind with a broken heart. You now know how this all ends. Until we all gathering once again to share our stories and pray for the whole world, you remain in our hearts.
