ROOSEVELT ROY VALDEZ
EDINBURG- Roosevelt Roy Valdez, 40, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 19, 2016.
Roy was born in Holdenville, OK and had lived in Edinburg since August of 1979. He was a devoted son, brother, husband and loving father to three children. During his short lifetime, Roy touched many lives. In 1994 he graduated from Edinburg High School, where he served as the captain of the football team, Class President, and National Honor Society Member. In 1998, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Texas-Pan American. He was successful and earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2002. Roy began his career as an attorney by serving as an assistant DA from 2003 to 2005. He left the District Attorney’s office and pursued a career as a criminal defense attorney, where he left an impressive mark in our legal community. Roy will be forever remembered for his contagious smile and his love for life.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Alicia Valdez.
Mr. Valdez is survived by his wife of nine years, Elizabeth Valdez; three children, Rebecca Nicole Valdez, Rachel Rose Valdez, Roosevelt Royce Valdez, all of Edinburg; his father, Roosevelt Valdez of Mercedes; two brothers, Robert (Christy) Valdez and Richard (Krystina) Valdez, both of Edinburg.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Friday, April 22, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
Pallbearers will be Robert Ramon, Richard Cruz, Orlie Ochoa, Mark Gonzalez, Obie Salinas, Lee Garcia, Jose Regalado and RJ Rios. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Flores, Judge Luis Singleterry, Rey Cisneros, Keno Vasquez and Judge Bobby Flores.
