Wesley Van Matre Jr.

Wesley Van Matre Jr., 92, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 in Center, TX.
Wesley served in the United States Army during the Korean War as an MP while stationed in Germany. He spent over 40 years working as a Teacher and as the Director of Vocational programs in the Edinburg and Pharr San Juan Alamo School Districts. He loved his students and spoke about them often.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Joyce Jean Van Matre; his brother, Ivester Lee Van Matre; and longtime companion, Ruby Ricketson.
He is survived by his four children, Deborah Bulsterbaum, Steven Van Matre, Susan Wells, and David Van Matre; three grandchildren, Leslie Reta-Smith, Ryan Wells, Jessica Skeen; four great-grandchildren, Makayla Reta-Smith, Jaiden Wells, Anthony Skeen, Tyler Skeen; and two brothers, J.D. Van Matre, and Benny Van Matre.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
