Eleuterio "Joe" Vargas

ELEUTERIO “JOE” VARGAS PHARR — Eleuterio “Joe” Vargas, 91, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at McAllen Heart Hospital. Born in Mexico City, Mr. Vargas had lived in Pharr for 50 years and was formerly of California. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Carolina Marie Estrada; and a sister, Raquel Cuevas. Mr. Vargas is survived by his wife, Maria I. Vargas; 11 children, Ricardo Vargas, Guadalupe Jimenez, Luisa Vargas, Martha Vargas, Maria Vargas, Manuel Vargas, Antonio Vargas, Cynthia Garcia, Marlene Castro, Gloria Galindo, Sylvia Garcia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernardo Vargas, Armando Vargas; and two sisters, Josefina Avila and Felicitas Avila. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, July 27, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
