Jose "Eddie" Vargas, 49, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. To his family, Eddie was known as "Guero," because as a child he had blonde hair and hazel eyes.
Born in McAllen, Mr. Vargas had lived in McAllen and Edinburg most of his life, and he was proud to be a McHi Bulldog. He was employed with International Paper for over 20 years, where he created life-long friendships and everlasting memories. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. When mentioned, the terms "teddy bear," "Mr. Fix It," and "goof ball" are often used to describe him.
Eddie loved to barbecue, catch fish, and watch his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. He was a car fanatic and could fix everything and anything. Mr. Vargas was always smiling and laughing, making up his own songs, and bringing the party to every moment. He enjoyed life to the fullest and put his family above all. Mr. Vargas will continue to live on in happy moments, cook outs, and fishing trips. He will forever be in his family members' hearts.
Eddie is survived by his loving parents, Jose and San Juanita Vargas of Aurora, Illinois; his wife, Jamie Vargas of Edinburg; his twin children, Matthew Edward Vargas of Edinburg, Danielle Lynn Vargas of Chicago; two sisters, Maricela (Noe) Olivarez of Pharr, Yesenia Vargas of Aurora, Illinois; and several nephews, nieces, and great-nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
