MARTIN “MIKE” VARGAS, JR. ALAMO – Martin “Mike” Vargas Jr., 73, died Monday, January 6, 2014, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. Born in Wharton, Texas, Mr. Vargas had lived in Alamo all of his life and was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by a brother, Rafael Vargas. Mr. Vargas is survived by his wife, Maria Del Rosario Vargas, of Alamo; nine children, Jose Luis Vargas, Rosa Maria (Jose Leonel Zuniga Jr.) Vargas, Victor (Magdalena) Vargas, Virginia Vargas, Benjamin Vargas, all of Alamo, Beatriz Vargas, of Sharyland, Vicente Vargas, Vazilio (Sonya) Vargas, and Violeta (Jorge Martinez) Vargas, all of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Adelaida Bernal, of California. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, January 8, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alamo. The family would like to thank the staff of Las Palmas Healthcare Center and Retama Manor Nursing Center, as well as the MICU staff of Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for the care given to our husband and father. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
