SAN JUAN – Petra Vasquez, 81, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
Mrs. Vasquez was born in Santa Gertrudes Ranch, Tamps., Mexico and had lived in San Juan since 1966. She was member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ramon Cortez; and her parents, Francisco and Maria Blanco.
Mrs. Vasquez is survived by her husband, Raymundo Vasquez, of San Juan; two sons, Ramon (Gloria) Cortez, Jr., Javier (Maricela) Cortez, both of Pharr; three daughters, Alicia (Carlos) Gonzales, of Weslaco, Paula (Dr. Dewayne) Green, of Alamo, Mary (Oscar) Ruiz, of San Juan; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Ana Jasso, Felicitas Blanco, Olivia Hernandez, Maria Bear, Carmen Blanco; and three brothers, Feliciano Blanco, Francisco Gabriel Blanco and Francisco De Assis Blanco.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, November 8, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 am Monday, November 9, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Pallbearers will be Carlos Gonzales Jr., Sergio A. Gonzales, Roberto C. Gonzales, Julio A. Gonzales, Matthew X. Cortez, and Cody I. Cortez. Honorary pallbearer will be Alexandria G. Pena.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
