Nicolasa Vela Martinez

EDINBURG – Nicolasa Vela Martinez, 81, went home to our Lord Monday, November 26, 2018, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Nicolasa lived in Alamo for 50 years and, along with her husband Jose, was a very active member of Resurrection Catholic Church where she volunteered distributing food to the needy. Mrs. Martinez was also a retired employee of Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sinforosa and Alejandro Vela.
Nicolasa is survived by her loving husband, Jose Martinez, Sr. of Edinburg; four children, Jose (Maria Tovar) Martinez, Jr., of Edinburg, Rosie Martinez of McAllen, Raul (Sylvia) Martinez, Ramon (Inez Rodriguez) Martinez, both of Edinburg; nine grandchildren, Gabriel, Andrea, R.J., and Jessica Martinez, Evie Leal, Justin, C.J., and Rebecca Martinez, Daniella Rodriguez; two great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Caleb; a brother, Eduardo (Bertha) Vela of Donna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Pallbearers will be Justin Martinez, R.J. Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Miguel Martinez, Joe Garza Jr., and Johnny Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
