It is with profound sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father on September 1, 2023 at his residence in San Carlos. "VL" was born on June 17, 1926 on the same property in San Carlos to Clara & JL Anthony.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years Betty Allen Anthony in 2019; parents Clara & JL Anthony; in-laws Lois & Houston Allen; brothers John and Wayne Anthony.
He is survived by three children, Norman Anthony, Lloyd (Esmer, Addy) Anthony, Sharyn (Mark) Bentsen; four grandchildren, Dixie Villarreal, Stephanie (Stacy) Eleuterius, Lyle (Maranda) Anthony, and Logan (Shay Bense) Anthony; six great grandchildren, Brian Villarreal (Justine Olsommer); Natalie Villarreal, Anson Eleuterius, Reid Eleuterius, Lane Eleuterius and due any day now Sage Anthony; three step-grandchildren, Natasha Montoya (Javier)(Yahir), Joshua & Sebastian Acosta.
"VL" served his country in the Air Force from Nov. 1945 until Aug. 1946.
He then farmed in the Edinburg, San Carlos, Weslaco, Donna and Hargill areas until 1998. After retiring, he enjoyed working in his woodwork shop. "VL" and Betty spent many summers camping on the banks of the Frio River. Cherished memories with their children, grandchildren and family were made on these trips.
Serving as pallbearers are grandsons Lyle Anthony, Logan Anthony, and great grandsons Brian Villarreal, Anson Eleuterius, Reid Eleuterius and Lane Eleuterius.
A special thank you to Janie (Mama Jane) Navarro, who took care of our Mom & Dad and their home for over 50 years. The family would also like to thank his loving caregivers, Maricela Gonzalez and Maria (Cuca) Acosta; and to the staff at Selah Hospice Care, Alicia, Ariel, Xóchitl.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with a service to follow Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 201 E. Samano St. in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg is in charge of funeral arrangements.
