ALAMO – Tomas Villagomez Jr., 76, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at LifeCare Hospital in McAllen.
Born in Alamo, April 18, 1940, Mr. Villagomez had lived in Alamo all of his life.
He served his country proudly for six years in the Army Reserves and his devotion was to his family and lifelong friends.
Tomas enjoyed getting together to watch sports and having barbeques. He loved to read books, discuss politics, current events, and tell a good joke! But his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren as they grew up before his own eyes.
As Tomas battled cancer he displayed great strength, perseverance and faith in his God. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. WE LOVE YOU MORE DAD!
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tomas Sr. and Bertha Villagomez; two siblings, Amada Hortencia Chavez and Servando Villagomez; nephews, Ricardo Chavez III, Robert Cortez, Sr., Robert Cortez, Jr. and Hector “Rocky” Lopez. A niece Samantha Amada Chavez.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Maria Del Refugio “Cookie” Villagomez of Alamo; three children, Tomas (Imelda) Villagomez III and Eduardo Villagomez of Alamo; Rebecca (Guillermo) Guerrero of Sharyland; six grandchildren, Johnny, Adrian, Jacob, Guillermo, Gael, and Giselle; four siblings; Dolores (Jose) Moreno of Alamo, Myra (Reyes) Nava of Pharr, Rudy (+Hilda) Villagomez of San Antonio, and Lupe (Margot) Villagomez of San Juan; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Texas Oncology, McAllen Medical Center, Life Care Hospital, Memorial Funeral Home and everyone who gave cards, flowers, food, telephone calls, thoughts and prayers. A special thanks to all the brothers/sisters in law and good friends for their kindness and support.
Tomas was a loving husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., with a 5:30 p.m. memorial service, May 11, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
