Elfido "Fito" Villarreal, 86, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022, peacefully at his home in Edinburg, Texas.
Elfido was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He was born in Runge, Texas on May 11, 1935. Elfido grew up in Edinburg, where he met his beautiful wife, Felicitas. Elfido worked for the City of Edinburg for 35 years. He was hardworking, honest, and sincere. He was a musician by heart and in his early twenties started in the Conjunto band called "Los Dos Gilbertos." He loved playing the guitar, bajo sexto, accordion, and singing. He was loveable, patient, and kind, and always had time for all his family. You will be dearly missed, Rest in Heaven.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Guadalupe Villarreal; two sisters, Maria Elisa Villarreal, Gloria Barrera; and a brother, Samuel Villarreal.
Mr. Villarreal is survived by his wife, Felicitas Villarreal; five children, Aracelia Pena, Elfido (Patricia) Villarreal Jr., Alfredo Villarreal, Aida (+Reynaldo) Gonzalez, Gabriela Villarreal (fiancé, Edgar Rios); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emma Barrera.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
