GIL VILLARREAL
EDINBURG - Gil Villarreal, 90, went to our Lord surrounded by his family on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Elsa, Texas.
Gil was born in Laredo, Texas to Maria and Juan Villarreal in 1927. He lived in Lasara, Texas for many years and then moved to Edinburg in 1978. Gil was a compassionate, kind and respectable gentleman. He was a teacher and role model for many. He was also a man of integrity and he had a strong faith in our Lord.
Gil was a hard worker; mostly working in farming and ranching. He migrated to California for many years until he started his own produce trucking company. He instilled the value of hard work to his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Juan Villarreal; his brother, Leopoldo Villarreal; and grandson, Juan Pablo Guajardo.
Mr. Villarreal is survived by his wife of 65 years, Felicitas Villarreal of Edinburg; three daughters, Felicitas (Dagoberto) Garcia of Edinburg, Sylvia (Juan) Guajardo of Elsa, Mary (David) Martinez of Edinburg; two nephews raised as sons, Amando (Martha) Guerra and Felipe (Evelia) Guerra; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
