DELIA V. VILLEGAS
PHARR - Surrounded by her family, Delia V. Villegas, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Feb. 14th, 2011. She was born May 13, 1925 in El Tule Ranch, Texas. Widowed at a young age, she lived a life devoted to Christ, her family, and her Catholic faith. Raising her three very young children, Carlos Villegas, Jr., Yvonne Uribe and Caesar Villegas. Nani, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, instilled a deep understanding of family values, education, and civil and community service.
While serving as the Chief Program Assistant for the Hidalgo County ASCS office she was honored with the Award for Service to Agriculture in 1980. After a 35 year career at the USDA, she continued working at a variety of businesses to include: Toby’s Plumbing, and Jones, Galligan, Key and Pena, Attorneys at Law.
The second of five sisters known as “The Tia’s”, enjoyed frequent trips to Las Vegas with their brother and sister in-law. In 1998, “The Tia’s” took a memorable trip to Rome, which included an audience and personal greeting with Pope John Paul, II.
Delia was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Villegas, Sr., her parents, Arnulfo and Maria Z. Villarreal, and one brother, Beto Villarreal, Sr.
She is survived by her children, Carlos (Rosie) Villegas, Yvonne (Mario) Uribe, and Caesar (Delia) Villegas. Surviving grandchildren are Charlie (Monica), Mark (Vianey) and C.J. Villegas; Rebecca, Roberto, and Ricardo Uribe, and 6 great-grandchildren. Remaining family members include brother, Gilbert (Isaura) Villarreal and sisters, Lilia Rutledge, Emma Vela, Celia (Armando) Caceres, and Ofelia (Manuel) Ruiz.
Delia’s wishes were to be buried in a red dress. It was fitting that she join Our Lord and her husband on Valentine’s day. The family wishes, if possible, everyone to join them in wearing red for her services.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm with a 7 pm rosary, today, February 15, 2011 at Memorial Funeral home in San Juan, TX. Funeral service will be at 1 pm, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Jude's Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, TX.
Pallbearers: Grandsons Carlos G. Villegas III, Marco Antonio Villegas, Caesar Javier Villegas, Roberto X. Uribe, Ricardo D. Uribe, and nephew Charles Gilpin.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
