Willie Gonzalez,Jr.

Willie Gonzalez, Jr., 68, died Wednesday February 26, 2025, at 

University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Willie was a lifelong resident of Alamo and a beloved pillar of the community. Throughout his life, he generously supported numerous organizations and individuals, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. In 1992, he founded the original Willie's BBQ, a cherished establishment that continues to thrive today.A devoted businessman, husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Willie approached every role with passion and dedication. He was a faithful and active member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Beyond his love for family and community, he had a deep passion for BBQ and was an avid poker player, always embracing life with enthusiasm and heart.

He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Gonzalez, Sr.; and a brother, Gilberto Gonzalez.

Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his wife, Cristina Gonzalez of Alamo; a daughter, Melissa Ann Gonzalez (Jeremy) Garate of McAllen; a son, Michael Lee (Abby) Gonzalez of Alamo; granddaughter, Madalyn Rae Gonzalez; his mother, Carolina Gonzalez of Alamo; and three siblings, Nora Garza of McAllen, Melida (Joe) Chavarria of San Antonio, and Roy (Sylvia) Gonzalez of Alamo.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
