MARJORIE STEWART WILLIS
EDINBURG - Marjorie Stewart Willis, 95, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday morning, January 21, at her daughter's home in Edinburg. Marjorie was born in Lafayette, Lousiana, in 1915, to John Milton and Mary Lou Perry Crossley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and two loving husbands, Roy Wesley Stewart of Hargill and Clayton Edward Willis of Edinburg.
Marjorie is survived by her two daughters, Jeanean Stewart Pollock of Edinburg and Bobbie Stewart Mueller of San Antonio, as well as the following grandchildren: Roy Pollock and wife, Cathy, of Buena Vista, Colorado; Rita Pollock Sprabary and husband, Jeff, of Krum; Jack Pollock of McAllen; Kathy Mueller Bencomo, and husband, Jimmy, of Fort Davis; Melanie Pollock Glasper and husband, Curtis, of McAllen; John Mueller of San Antonio; Penny Pollock Armer and husband, Steven, of Baytown; and Hoyt Pollock of San Antonio. “Mema” had eighteen great-grandchildren: Keith W. Pollock and wife, Natalie; Charity Pollock Rodriguez and her husband, Joe; Heidi and Bethany Pollock; Jack Lawson; Zachary, Lee Ann, and MacKenzie Pollock; Addie Bencomo Langham and husband, Willie; Caleb and Josiah Bencomo; Curtis Jr., Natalie, and Madeline Glasper; Madison, Macy, and Max Armer; and Jacob and Hannah Pollock. Marjorie was also blessed to have four great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving Marjorie are her grown step-children: Edward Willis and wife, Johnelle, of Raymondville; Joyce Willis Strader, of San Antonio; Linda Willis Wright and husband, Larry, of Houston; and Weldon Willis and wife, Barbara, of Salado. Marjorie’s extended Willis family had eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Marjorie was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Abilene. She arrived in the Rio Grande Valley as a teenager and transferred her membership to Hargill Baptist Church. In later years, after her move to Edinburg, she became a member of the First Baptist Church and was also active in the Pan American Roundtable, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Retired Teachers Association.
Marjorie was generous and loving and practiced the Ten Commandments and passed on to her children the absolute need to tell the truth. Her children will be forever grateful for the example she set for them with high morals and integrity, as well as for their children and children's children, and for boundless love she had for all. Marjorie was the example of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31: “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. She looks well to the ways of her household, and eats not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
