JOSEPHINE ROSE YAKIMOWSKI

ALAMO, TX/DEDHAM, MASS. – Josephine Rose Yakimowski, 65, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.

Josephine was born in Weymouth, MA, grew up in Hyde Park, MA, and lived in Dedham, MA. Recently, she lived in Alamo, TX.

In school she was a scholar in honors classes, and a member of the St. Joseph’s Dante and Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps.

Jo was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Square Dance Foundation of New England. She actually started square dancing in 1973 with the Spares `n Squares in Milton, MA. The rest is history. Josephine attended and taught rounds at 22 National Square & Round Dance Conventions and initiated an “Introduction to Round Dancing” at the New England Square & Round Dance Conventions. Jo conducted Pinnacles Round Dance Leaders’ School and many weekends. She taught at four Canadian Square & Round Dance Conventions. She was a panelist at many conventions, National, New England, & Legacy. Her list of achievements was long. Contributing Editor to the Northeast Square Dancer Magazine, Past Roundalab Classics/Round of the Quarter Chairman, Past Founder and Editor of The New England Round Dancer Leaders’ Newsletter, Past President & Secretary for Mayflower Round Dance Teachers Association, Past President of SEMCA, just to name a few. Jo was a charter member of Roundalab, and was a member of the Vermont Round Dance Teacher Association, NECORTA, and SDFNE.

Jo was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and donating those funds to Veterans.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Genevieve Yakimowski.

Josephine is survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Yakimowski; several cousins, and many friends.

A memorial service will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg.
