ENRIQUE ZAMORA
LINN/SAN MANUEL - Enrique Zamora, 91, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2017. He was born on July 15, 1925 at El Rucio Ranch in San Manuel, Texas. Mr. Zamora was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in Japan for two years. Upon honorable discharge, he came home to work on the family ranch which he did for the rest of his life. Mr. Zamora helped start a baseball team in San Manuel back in his younger days and in 2007, was inducted into the Leo Najo Baseball Hall of Fame. He was one of the original members of Linn-San Manuel Volunteer Fire Department and also a member of the St. Anne’s Catholic Church in San Manuel.
He was a member of the pioneer Zamora family of San Manuel, Texas and was preceded in death by his parents, Florentino Zamora and Marcolfa Flores Zamora; eight siblings, Abel Zamora of Sullivan City, Lisandro A. Zamora, Rodrigo Zamora, Berta Z. Hinojosa, and Alicia Zamora of San Manuel, Ruben D. Zamora, David G. Zamora, and Ester E. Zamora of Edinburg.
Mr. Zamora is survived by his devoted and caring wife of 57 years, Viola Villarreal Zamora; two daughters, Belinda (Gildardo) Basaldua and Edna Alicia (John) Perez; a son, Rolando Rene Zamora; four grandchildren, Gildardo III, Theresa, Christopher, and Cynthia; a sister-in-law, Esperanza (+Lisandro) Zamora; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the staff at Legacy Home Health in Edinburg, and to his caregiver, Omar Rodriguez, for his care and spiritual need.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, April 3, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in San Manuel. Interment will follow at El Rucio Ranch Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Roel R. Zamora, Arturo Zamora, Orlando R. Zamora, Eduardo X. Zamora, David G. Zamora Jr., Lauro Zamora, and Lizandro A. Zamora Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are Raul R. Zamora, Teodoro Garza, and Blas M. Saenz. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 7473 of Elsa.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
