SIGIFREDO "SIGI" ZARATE EDINBURG - Sigifredo "Sigi" Zarate, 80, went to be with our heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at his residence in Edinburg. Mr. Zarate was born in Edinburg and had lived there all of his life. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Sigi was an active member of his community and proud member of the American Legion Post 408 where he served as a Commander. He also served as a member of the military and proudly served at the Korean War. Proud business owner of Look Realty, he helped many families become homeowners. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Apolonia Zarate; four brothers, Baldemar, Alejandro, Onofre, Lombardo Zarate; four sisters, Herlinda Hernandez, Carmen Luna, Sorangelica Zarate, and Cedelia Pardo. Mr. Zarate is survived by his wife of 55 years, Basilia Sepulveda Zarate, of Edinburg; three children, Lucia (Juan) Cantu, Norma Linda Zarate, Alfredo Zarate all of Edinburg; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Abigail (Paul) Woolman, Modesta (Urbano) Alaniz, Refugia (Bernardino) Garza, Zoila (Raul) Vela; a brother, Jose (Amparo) Zarate; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, April 21, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by Catholic War Veterans. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
